Core Common Assessments
The 9th Grade Science course has three core assessments: Core 1, Core 2, and Core 3. In the space below, we have a brief description of each, along with some answers to questions that are frequently asked about the core assessments.
CORE 1: This is a performance assessment called "Earthquake Epicenter Assessment". The assessment is to be given to students during the Geology Unit of the course. Your building science coordinator will have copies for you.
CORE 2: This is also a performance assessment and is called "The Fishkill Assessment". This assessment is to occur during the Ecology Unit of the course. Your building science coordinator has copies.
CORE 3: These 6 separate unit assessments that are administered just after the unit is completed. They are the
Geology Core Assessment
Evolution Core Assessment
Oceanography and Climate Core Assessment
Vertebrate & Paleontology Core Assessment
Botany Core Assessment
Ecology Core Assessment.
These assessments are to be given soon after the unit is taught. Following the 9 to 12 grading procedures, the 6 unit grades are to be accumulated and reported as the exam grade.
These assessments can be adjusted for special education needs.
